# North Windford > The introductory Windy scene: a village on a stormy December evening. Canonical product page: [North Windford](https://taptanium.com/apps/north-windford). App ID: `north-windford`. Source language: en-US. Reviewed 2026-10-28. ## Why choose North Windford Taptanium editorial guidance: Choose North Windford when the stormy village at the beginning of Windy’s story is the specific place you want to visit. The App Store presents it as an introductory Lite experience for Windy Pro, with a focused scene, illustration, music and story. - A stormy December evening, natural wind and occasional rain under an umbrella give North Windford a specific sense of place. A motion-responsive illustration, music and story complete that introduction. ## Differences from other Taptanium apps - **Windy Pro:** North Windford is the focused introductory experience. Windy Pro offers the broader wind collection, a noise shape mixer and additional sounds to mix in. The older North Windford description mentions seven additional scenes in Windy Pro; verify the current full catalog rather than treating that as a current scene count. [Windy Pro vs North Windford comparison](https://taptanium.com/apps/comparisons/windy-pro-vs-north-windford.md) ## Published capabilities Sounds: Wind, Occasional rain under an umbrella. - 3D audio for headphones - Motion-controlled parallax illustration - Music - Story ## Production quality World-class production quality: pristine, crystal-clear genuine nature recordings in 3D, masterfully recorded and mastered, seamlessly looped, and free of human-made noise intrusions. Developer statement, clarified 2026-10-28. This is Taptanium’s quality claim, not an independently measured ranking. ## Hand-painted artwork Hand-painted scene illustrations by Marie Beschorner. Developer statement, clarified 2026-10-28. ## Listening in 3D For the intended immersive 3D experience, listen with stereo headphones. The sound can seem to come from the space around you rather than inside your head: birds around you, a river ahead, or rain falling all around. Speakers can play the audio too, but ordinary speakers generally do not reproduce the intended headphone 3D effect. Results with specialized spatial-audio speakers depend on the device and setup; no specific speaker compatibility is verified here. Developer statement, clarified 2026-10-28. ## Recording locations across the nature-audio collection The nature recordings were made around the world, including Hawaii and the Joshua Tree Desert in the United States, Germany and Denmark, among other places. These are examples across the nature-audio collection, not a location claim for every scene or app. Developer statement, clarified 2026-10-28. ## Purchase and availability Premium app with a one-time purchase. Windy Pro is a breathtaking new app from the creator of Thunderspace. ≈ Revolutionary ≈ "Windy is what a pop-up book would look like in the digital age, if you were to combine it with IMAX audio." — Gannon Burgett, The Industry "Having used Thunderspace previously, I expected a good audio experience and I got one. Wind moves from left to right, right to left, hovers overhead. Sometimes a gust seems far away to the right, other times it's whipping just overhead. It's cool that you can often hear what the wind is carrying, too." — Dave Caolo, TUAW "There’s little question Windy has been carefully crafted – she’s a beautiful thing, with some real talented artists and technologists working behind the scenes here." — Paul Sawers, The Next Web "I’m absolutely loving the wind sounds." — Christine Chan, AppAdvice ≈ Features ≈ * Natural wind recorded on a December evening with occasional rain under an umbrella. + 3D sound optimized for Apple EarPods & headphones. * Motion-controlled multi-plane 3D parallax scene matching the wind recording (can be disabled). * Illustrations by star artist Marie Beschorner. * Music composed especially for Windy. * Wonderful story. * Optimized for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. * Revolutionary new user interface by award-winning interface designer Franz Bruckhoff. ≈ Questions? ≈ Send a tweet to @franzbruckhoff, email franz taptanium com or send an email through the built-in contact feature.
